Retirement Countdown
Live countdown to your retirement date — pick a date directly, or estimate it from your age.
How this works
Use "Pick a retirement date" for an exact, date-to-date countdown. Use "Calculate from age" if you only know your current age and a target retirement age — it estimates the date by applying an average year length (365.25 days) to the gap between the two, since it doesn't know your exact birth date. Either way you get the same live ticking countdown, plus a years-and-days breakdown of the time remaining.
A number to plan around, not a financial plan
This tool answers one narrow question well: given a target date or a target age, how much time is left until then, expressed as days, hours, minutes, and a years-plus-days breakdown. It intentionally stops there — it isn't a retirement calculator in the financial sense, doesn't model savings, Social Security, pensions, or early/delayed retirement penalties, and shouldn't be treated as planning advice. For the money side of retirement planning, talk to a financial advisor; for the "how long until then" side, this page gives you an exact, shareable answer.
Frequently asked questions
Is the age-based calculation exact?
No — the age-based mode estimates your retirement date using an average year length (365.25 days) applied to the difference between your current age and target age, since it doesn't know your exact birth date. For an exact date-to-date countdown, switch to the "Pick a retirement date" mode instead.
Can I change my target retirement age later?
Yes — just update the age fields or the date and press Start countdown again. Nothing is saved anywhere, so it recalculates instantly every time.
Does this account for early or delayed retirement rules, like Social Security?
No. This is a simple date and day calculator, not financial or retirement planning advice — it doesn't know your pension rules, Social Security full retirement age, or early/delayed claiming penalties. Consult a financial advisor for retirement planning specifics.
